The United States golf team maintained its flawless record at the LPGA International Crown tournament in Goyang, South Korea, securing two more fourball victories on Friday. These wins included a significant triumph that put an end to world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul`s impressive unbeaten streak in the team competition.
Americans Yealimi Noh and Angel Yin delivered a dominant performance, defeating Thitikul and Pajaree Anannarukarn 5 and 4. This marked Thitikul`s first loss after six consecutive match wins in the event. Later, Lilia Vu and Lauren Coughlin further solidified the U.S. position by winning their fourball match against Chanettee Wannasaen and Jasmine Suwannapura 3 and 2 at the New Korea Country Club.
Building on their two victories against China on Thursday, the top-seeded U.S. team remains the only undefeated contender in the tournament. All eight participating teams are scheduled to compete in a third round of fourball matches on Saturday.
In other Pool A action, Australia and China split their fourball contests on Friday. Minjee Lee and Stephanie Kyriacou secured a 2 and 1 victory over Zhang Weiwei and Liu Yan, while China`s Yin Ruoning and Ruixin Liu narrowly defeated Australians Hannah Green and Grace Kim 1-up.
Pool B also saw a split in Friday`s matches between Japan and Sweden. Miyu Yamashita and Rio Takeda bested Madelene Sagstrom and Ingrid Lindblad 3 and 2. However, Maja Stark and Linn Grant responded for Sweden, overcoming Mao Saigo and Ayaka Furue with a 3 and 2 win.
The `Rest of the World` team accumulated 1.5 points against South Korea, taking the lead in Pool B with a total of three points from two wins and two ties. A notable moment occurred when England`s Charley Hull sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, clinching a 1-up victory for her and World teammate Lydia Ko (New Zealand) against Hyo Joo Kim and Hye-Jin Choi. Separately, Jin Young Ko and Haeran Ryu tied their match with Wei-Ling Hsu of Taiwan and Canada`s Brooke Henderson.
